Individual, private and affordable Domestic Violence DV Awareness Program

Domestic Violence DV Awareness Program

Question: Why should I do this program?

The Domestic Violence DV Awareness Program will help you identify behaviours that may be harming your relationships and/or putting you at risk of contact with the criminal justice system. It’s not about blame – but it is about increasing personal awareness and taking full responsibility for keeping ourselves and others safe. Sometimes we may not be fully aware of just how harmful our behaviour is…which is why education is so important when it comes to protecting others, particularly those we love most.

Question: What does the program cover?

The Domestic Violence DV Awareness Program is both educational and motivational, with a strong focus on identifying specific behaviours that constitute family and domestic violence under Australian law.  It then goes on to discuss ways in which you can get your needs met without putting yourself at risk or harming others – particularly the more vulnerable people including women and children.  The program is offered in an individualised one-on-one counselling format to maximise opportunities for openness and honesty.  Service delivery is intentionally flexible (phone or videochat – FaceTime, Zoom and MS Teams) to accommodate the needs of participants Australia-wide.  Early morning sessions are available upon request.

Question: Will the program help with a Family Law or Criminal Law matter?

Participation in the Domestic Violence DV Awareness Program demonstrates willingness to ‘hold the mirror to your own behaviour and take responsibility for its impact on others. It also demonstrates openness to learning new ways of getting your needs met without putting yourself and others at risk. Upon request you will be issued a Letter of Completion that can be used for family law or criminal law purposes.  The document will include details of your participation in the program and a list of therapeutic components covered.  It may also include details of any ongoing referrals made by the Program Facilitator.

We also offer the following programs:

  1. Anger Management Program
  2. Parenting After Separation Awareness Program

Question: Can I get proof of program completion?

A Letter of Completion is available upon request and may be used for administrative and legal (including Family Law and Criminal Law Court) purposes.  The letter will not provide a diagnosis or contain any confidential information – but it will contain a concise record of your attendance, topics covered and your conduct throughout.  The letter is signed by the Program Facilitator and issued within 24-48 hours of program completion.

Question: How the does the program work?

The Domestic Violence DV Awareness Program follows a 4-session one-on-one counselling format that is informed by an initial assessment of your individual needs and life situation.  The sessions run for up to 50 minutes each and can be completed via phone or videochat (FaceTime, Zoom or MS Teams).  This program may also be completed as a 2 session ‘add-on’ following completion of the Anger Management Program or Parenting After Separation Awareness Program.

Question: How much does it cost?

Northern Frontiers Mediation & Counselling offers three behaviour awareness programs:

  1. Anger Management Program
  2. Parenting After Separation Awareness Program
  3. Domestic Violence DV Awareness Program

The cost of each 50-minute session is $220. Upon request you will receive a Letter of Completion for your lawyer/court (cost is $150).  The total cost of the Domestic Violence DV Awareness Program is $880.00 or $1030 if you require a Letter of Completion.  If you make full prepayment, you’ll receive a 5% discount (total cost then becomes $836.00 or $978.50 if you require a Letter of Completion).  Alternatively, you are welcome to pre-pay each session as you go.

Add-On Options: Once you have selected your main 4-session program, we then offer a special 2-session add-on option.  This means you can do the Domestic Violence DV Awareness Program over 4 sessions, then ‘add-on’ 2 sessions that will cover either the Anger Management Program or Parenting After Separation Awareness Program.

Question: Is the Domestic Violence DV Awareness Program the right fit for my client / partner / friend?

The Domestic Violence DV Awareness Program is appropriate for people in the pre-contemplative or contemplative stage of behaviour change. A needs assessment will be conducted by the Program Facilitator during the first session and continued participation is reliant on the individual’s ongoing demonstrated commitment to change. A report outlining the participant’s attendance and participation can be made available at completion of all sessions, or at a time deemed appropriate by the Program Facilitator should participation be discontinued.
