Anger Management Program – Individual and confidential

Individual Anger Management Program

Struggling to control your Anger or holding on to it for way too long? Charged with an anger-related offence that requires a court appearance?  Maybe someone close to you has expressed concern about your behaviour? You may be surprised to learn that Anger is a perfectly normal human emotion that we all experience from time to time – and it actually has an important purpose in our lives. Just because you become angry, doesn’t necessarily mean you have an anger management problem…but if you’re ‘losing it’ a little too often chances are you need help managing your Anger…

What if you thought of Anger as your ever-present watchdog whose job it is to alert you to situations that are not quite right for you and need your attention? Every-day life issues can cause the dog to growl i.e.  kids not doing as they’re told; car not starting; losing your keys; getting cut off in traffic, arguing with a loved one, or getting told off by the boss…You may not realise it at the time, but ‘losing your cool’ can have serious consequences for you and your relationships.

Northern Frontiers Mediation & Counselling offers a four (4) session Anger Management Program tailored to your individual needs. It’s facilitated live by our Lead Counsellor and Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner (FDRP), Melinda Bailey, who has many years experience helping people learn new ways to express feelings without harming themselves or others. The program is offered in-person at our Cairns office, or via phone or video-chat across Qld and Australia. Program referrals come from a wide variety of sources including criminal defence lawyers; family law practitioners, restorative justice groups and individual attendees.

You can complete the program from the comfort and privacy of your own home – and because there’s only you and the program facilitator in each session, you’re assured of a uniquely personalised service. FIFO? No worries, we’ll schedule sessions around your work/life commitments.

Problems arise when we don’t manage ourselves well when we’re under the influence of anger.

The way we choose to act can either help or harm us.  The human body is not designed to tolerate anger indefinitely. Letting anger-related issues go unresolved can lead to serious problems.

A pattern of angry outbursts or erratic behaviour Struggling to remain calm in discussions or negotiations

Becoming violent under the influence of alcohol

Repeatedly blaming others when it is not their fault

Frequent substance abuse

Using absolutes: “Everyone hates me.” “You never listen to me.”

Obsessing about things: “I should be doing better.” ”You should be doing more…”

Difficulty expressing emotions in a calm manner

Ignoring requests to speak about Anger

Withdrawing from loved ones
