Youth & Teen Anger Management Program

Support for young people aged 12–17

When anger leads to arguments, conflict at home or school, or behaviour that harms relationships, learning different responses can help. Northern Frontiers’ individual Youth & Teen Anger Management Program helps young people explore what anger feels like, recognise patterns and practise safer, more constructive ways of responding.

Anger is a normal emotion. The focus is on understanding its signals and taking responsibility for behaviour, rather than labelling a young person as an “angry person”. Sessions provide time to talk about situations that are difficult, what has happened in the past and what could be done differently.

What can we talk about?

Topics may include frustration, disagreements with family or friends, school pressures, physical warning signs, thoughts that intensify anger and ways to pause before reacting. The facilitator tailors the discussion to the young person’s circumstances, understanding and goals. A practical action plan helps connect the learning with everyday situations.

How is the program delivered?

The program is delivered one-to-one over four sessions by telephone or video, including Microsoft Teams, Zoom and FaceTime. Sessions run for up to 45 minutes and can generally be arranged weekly or fortnightly. Ask Reception about availability and a private, suitable setting for participation. Appointments are subject to availability rather than a guaranteed immediate start.

You work with your program facilitator directly. Telephone and video appointments reduce the need to travel and can be discussed around school, work and family commitments.

Booking for someone under 18

A parent or guardian must contact Northern Frontiers and complete the required Consent Form. Reception will explain the consent and booking process, and the facilitator can discuss how the young person participates, parent or guardian involvement, and confidentiality and its limits.

For participants aged 18 and over, see our adult Anger Management Program.

Referrals and getting started

No referral is required. A parent or guardian can contact us to discuss the Youth & Teen Anger Management Program. We also welcome enquiries from professionals and family members who would like information to share with a young person and their parent or guardian.

Before arranging contact with a potential participant, discuss consent with Reception. You can pass on our details and encourage the parent or guardian to make contact directly. Do not send sensitive third-party information without appropriate permission.

When enquiring, provide your name, the young person’s age, your location, a brief reason for seeking the program and your preferred appointment days. Reception will explain the next steps and current availability.

If participation relates to a Court matter, school requirement or another organisation’s request, check with the relevant adviser or organisation that this program meets its requirements. Completion does not guarantee acceptance or a particular outcome.

An individual approach

Everyone’s experiences and reasons for becoming angry differ. The four-session program is tailored to the young person. The facilitator explores their needs and goals, develops practical strategies and considers whether additional or specialist support may be appropriate. This is an educational behavioural awareness program, not a medical or psychological diagnosis, specialist risk assessment or crisis service.
