Anger Management Program Ballarat
If you live in Ballarat, you can work on how you respond to anger without travelling to a counselling office. Northern Frontiers Mediation & Counselling offers private, one-to-one sessions by phone or video, making the program accessible from wherever you are in Victoria. You can talk through what has been happening and practise ways to handle difficult moments in everyday life.
Support that fits around your life
You do not need to have everything worked out before getting in touch. You may be seeking help for yourself, responding to concerns at home or work, or trying to change the way you handle conflict during separation. The sessions provide an opportunity to discuss your situation and develop more considered responses.
How do I know if I need help with anger?
Anger is a normal emotion. It becomes a concern when the way you express it harms relationships, causes problems at work or leaves you regretting what you have said or done. You might recognise a pattern yourself, or someone close to you may have asked you to make a change.
Our Anger Management Program gives you space to look at those patterns and take responsibility for your responses. The focus is on practical changes you can use between sessions, as well as understanding what sets your anger off.
How does the Anger Management Program work?
The program is for adults aged 18 and over and consists of four individual sessions, each lasting up to 50 minutes. Sessions are usually held weekly or fortnightly by phone or video, so you can participate from a suitable private location.
You work one-to-one with a practitioner. There are no group sessions, and no referral is required. You can contact Northern Frontiers directly to ask questions or arrange your first appointment.
Reception can explain appointment availability, current fees and how to connect for your sessions before you book.
What will I learn in the program?
- Recognising triggers and early warning signs.
- Understanding the thoughts and habits that contribute to anger.
- Pausing before reacting and practising calmer responses.
- Communicating needs and boundaries more assertively.
- Taking responsibility for the effect of your behaviour on others.
For someone aged 12–17, please see our separate Youth & Teenager Anger Management Program. A parent or guardian needs to contact us and provide the required consent.
Other support through Northern Frontiers
Anger management is one part of our broader counselling and mediation practice. If separation has raised questions about children or finances, our Parenting Mediation & Family Dispute Resolution and Property & Financial Mediation pages explain those separate services.
You can also read about Parenting After Separation or Domestic Violence Awareness and discuss suitability with Reception. Anger management and awareness sessions do not replace a specialist family violence behaviour change program.

Can I complete the program if I have a court matter?
For someone in Ballarat, seeking help may coincide with a criminal matter at a court such as Ballarat Magistrates’ Court, or family law proceedings through the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia at its Ballarat court location. Depending on where the parties live and where the matter arose, proceedings may be dealt with locally or in another regional centre. Your court documents or lawyer can confirm which court is handling your matter. If anger management has been suggested, check whether this program and its completion letter meet your particular needs before booking.
A Letter of Completion is available on request after you finish the program; an additional fee applies. It records attendance, completion and program content. It is not a diagnosis or risk assessment, and participation does not guarantee a court outcome.
Do you need legal advice?
If you are dealing with a family law or criminal matter, you may also need advice from a lawyer. Northern Frontiers provides counselling and mediation services; we do not provide legal advice.
Contact Victoria Legal Aid for free legal information and to ask about your options for further assistance. Call 1300 792 387 to discuss your situation. Eligibility requirements apply to some advice and representation services.
How much does the program cost, and how do I book?
Northern Frontiers provides a private, individual Anger Management Program with fees involved. Your one-to-one sessions are tailored to your situation, including the patterns, challenges and changes you want to work on. View our current fees for sessions and the optional completion letter before deciding whether to book. If you intend to use third-party funding, check your eligibility and approval arrangements with the funder before booking.
To ask a question or arrange your first session, call 1300 90 81 70, text 0419 531 269, or email reception@northernfrontiers.com.au. You can also contact Reception using the enquiry form. There is no obligation to book while you are considering your options.
Are there free support options?
If a paid program is not affordable for you, or you need someone to talk to now, free support is available:
- Lifeline provides free, confidential crisis support for anyone feeling overwhelmed or struggling to cope. Call 13 11 14 or use online chat, available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
- MensLine Australia provides free, professional counselling for men about concerns including anger, relationships, stress and mental health. Call 1300 78 99 78, available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
These services offer support in their own right. If you need to complete a particular program for court, employment or another purpose, check the requirements with the person requesting it before choosing a service.
